Website down - Unscheduled
Apologies for the downtime last night, our server decided to shut itself down. It looks like the memory was maxed out after being online for several months straight so we are buying more to hopefully prevent this from happening again. Nothing a reboot wouldn't fix.

Sorry for the 3-4 hour downtime last night, our dedicated server provider made a billing error and suspended the server without warning, not bloody impressed at all. Anyway they promised to fix the invoice error and promptly put our server back online so it's all good. We'll put that one down to teething problems

Apologies for the downtime over the past few days, we had a faulty PSU on the new server which was causing it to die every few hours and made pinpointing the problem extremely difficult. The power supply unit was replaced by our hosts with a new one about an hour ago so hopefully everything runs smooth from now on.

Ok so the faulty PSU wasnt the end of the story. All the hardware was replaced on this server overnight just in case it was fried by the power supply unit.

Sorry about the unexpected downtime over the past few days, it seems all of the RAM on the server is being exhausted. We have added some more RAM for now to see if that helps. There are a few reasons why this problem could be occurring and we are currently investigating further to try and pinpoint the issue. A server upgrade may be in the cards very soon, Xeon x 2.

Re: Website down - Unscheduled
There has been a reoccurring problem over the past week with this server crashing unexpectedly. The cause is the way this phpBB forum software serves files, in particular large files. All files are loaded into server memory etc before being sent so again we are running out of memory due to an increase in traffic and the amount of people downloading files at the same time from this site. We either put more RAM into the server, which would only temporarily fix the problem, or we modify the download function of this forum software to serve files a different way. We've opted for the latter and are working on it now.

Ok we did some modifications to the download functions of this forum software and I think the problem we were having with RAM is now fixed, hopefully for good but only time will tell. Cheers.
