Software for getting clips from DVDs

Postby mikey_h_au » Mon Jan 17, 2005 5:21 am

I've finally got a PC with a DVD burner, and i would like to make short clips from some of my DVDs. My question is - is there any freeware rippers around that will do this??

If i succeed, i will post some of the results for all to share.

Thanks in advance'

Mikey

You could try VirtualDub-mpeg2. It is available here - http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/stable/. If you need a hand getting started let me know... btw make sure you have DivX installed (or XVid) and LAME audio for best results, get them both from the KLite codec pack as discussed in this thread - http://www.aussiesexposed.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=63

You are wanting to do DVD -> PC? If so, use DVD Decrypter and that will rip the VOB files which you can then open with VirtualDub MPEG2. All free BTW.

I have found DVDx to be a useful tool for ripping clips from DVDs. I think they went to a pay system once but I think a freeware version is still available.

If you get garbled results when trying to use VirtualDubMpeg2 to rip a .vob file then you need to run a program like AnyDVD (by Slysoft.com) in the background to get clean footage...
