Download connection problem
Re: Download connection problem
I get that download problem quite a lot, it drives me nuts!
So I make a list of what I want and visit a mate and use his computer to download, and the problem hasn't happened once when I do it there! Weird!

Re: Download connection problem
this could just mean that you lost connection to the server this site is on, which is why the file couldn't be read. If that's the case then there could be a multitude of things that could be the cause. Your browser might have glitched out, try uninstalling and then reinstalling it, or try a different one to see if that's the problem. There might have been a problem with your local exchange or somewhere else along the line at the time. There could be a small bug introduced in the latest version of this forum software, in which case it would probably fixed in the next version if it's a known problem. I haven't had this error with any downloads since I've been a member here.because the source file could not be read

Thanks for the info. Will have a look into it. Am having the same problem again tonight.

Re: Download connection problem
I have found a solution which has worked most of the time over the weekend.
I tried the site in IE and had some luck downloading files, but I hate IE so have installed a FF addon IE Tab Plus
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10909/
I have it configured to view AE in a IE Tab at all times, over the weekend I downloaded about 20 clips, and only got the download error once or twice, that's a good enough solution for me.

Re: Download connection problem
My next question is do you use any addons? I'm assuming you do use them since you went and looked for a "ie tab" one. Your problem could easily be there. I was using Firefox 3.6.3 with a bunch of addons, until I found out one of them was badly written and caused certain web sites to flip out, and eventually totally bugged out the browser. I reinstalled Firefox without any plugins and those sites work fine again, this was only a couple of weeks ago btw. Even with the plugins I never had a problem with this site though. Anyway I would go the reinstall myself or at least try and disable all the plugins/addons.
Take a look at this thread at the Firefox authors website it looks like this is a common enough bug in Firefox, it also has plenty of suggestions on how to fix the issue, read. I also did a search on google and there are hundreds of pages with people commenting about this Firefox problem.
Anyway good luck with it, i'm glad I don't have those issues any more

Don't have problems with other sites, just the download error problem here, but it's basically fixed now, so I'm happy.

Re: Download connection problem
Yeah way to answer my question, do you use plugins/addons? If you do then that's what your problem is, your Firefox is buggered that's all. I use Firefox here and it works fine, I've never had a problem with downloading from this site, ever.
So why would this site choose not to let you download properly then but it's fine for me and the hundreds of others that download every day? That says to me that you have a problem at your end, nothing to do with this particular web site at all otherwise there would be more than two people reporting the problem
A logical conclusion really.
Good luck with your band-aid fix, as long as it works and your happy

Re: Download connection problem
Have tried using a different browser and the issue has not occurred again so more than likely Firefox is the problem as outlined above.
Will try a re-install as I prefer Firefox to the other options.
Cheers
