HD avi out of sync

Postby hippyd » Sun May 10, 2009 11:13 am

Recently converted two mpegs to avi via the normal virtual dub method. The SD vid came out normal but the HD vid went out of sync audiowise as the avi progressed. Has anyone encountered this with HD files and what can be done to stop the audio getting out of sync?

found in virtual dub while looking for something else that you can shift the audio,
look in the help files under audio display, have done a few and it is fairly easy.
i normaly divx my files so you could try DrDivx, a free d/l, it lets you manipulate
the files unlike divx converter

Coz I use dv8's guide to convert my vids. If there's a better way to do it let me know.

Have you tried AviDemux?
- Uses it's own internal codecs (kinda like how VLC handles things)
- Open/save support for more formats (AVI, MPG, MP4, FLV, MOV, MKV, ASF/WMV)

I haven't tried AviDemux but for VirtualDub you can give the following a go...
press "Video" then "Frame Rate..." then "Change so video and audio durations match"

You can also try "Audio" > "Interleaving..." and then enter a positive or negative value in the "Delay audio track by" box depending on whether the audio is coming in early or late...

If you still have problems after that you can always extract the audio from the source using one of many available utilities and turn it into an mp3 or wave file, then import it into VirtualDub.
Press "Audio" then "Browse for audio", select your wav/mp3 file and if need be adjust the audio delay using the method above.
It's a bit of a pain having to do all that but it works for stubborn files that refuse to sync...

In the second method you just need to put in the time in milliseconds, for example entering 1000 (1000 milliseconds) will move the audio backwards 1 second in relation to the video footage, -1000 will move the audio forward one second... So if your audio is lagging behind the video footage you need to use negative values to move the audio forward. For myself in 99% of cases I need to enter either -300, -700 or -900 to fix sync problems...

that method works most of the time for me but once in a blue moon I have to resort to the third... The first method is mainly for audio that starts ok and in sync but then gradually goes out of sync as the footage progresses... anyway i'm glad one of them helped you out ;)
