Model Erin McNaught has joined the cast of long-running Aussie soap Neighbours.

The former Australian Miss Universe representative has been taking acting classes in Sydney in preparation for her role. She will film her first scenes on December 17.

"Everyone has grown up watching Neighbours," Erin told the The Sunday Telegraph. "Of course I am nervous. It is a big change from what I have been used to doing."

Former Australian Idol contestant Dean Geyer was also recently recruited by producers, who are hoping to boost ratings for the soap in Oz.

I dunno about you guys, but having Erin AND Nicky Whelen in the same street is what dreams are made of. The first time I tried to imagine them both in the same frame together my head nearly exploded. All I know is that if this does come to fruition, I’ll be eagerly glued to Ramsay street 24/7!!!!

Pity that Nicky has left the show otherwise it would have really been great having the two both in the street. Wouldn't it have been great if they both lived in the house with the pool and were constant visitors together in it

Damn, I'm so hanging to see this footage she's shot for Neighbours!!! I got three computers here ready willing and able, all dedicated to this single event! hehe

I just hope for her benefit she's good - hopefully enough to pursue this avenue and give us a chance to see more of her!

Poor girl has had her index finger severed in a motorbike accident while filming a story for Ch.9.
Surgeons have reattached it but it's gotta be frightening for her.

Model Erin Mcnaught has finger reattached after accident

By Anette Sharp, The Daily Telegraph, November 26, 2009 12:01am

MODEL Erin McNaught had emergency surgery yesterday after partially severing a finger in a motorcycle accident.

The former Miss Universe Australia was shooting a story for Channel 9's Cybershack program on Tuesday when an electronic dirt bike she was moving accelerated out from under her, prompting her to fall on it, her hand becoming trapped in its spinning wheel.

Her spokeswoman said the model was "traumatised" by the accident, The Daily Telegraph reports.

She was last night recovering in hospital after emergency micro-surgery to "reattach" the index finger on her right hand.

"An electronic dirt bike fell on her," spokeswoman Kathy Ward said.

"She is having a major operation to reattach the finger, reconnect nerves and blood vessels in the finger that were severed in the accident."

A keen motorcycle rider, McNaught underwent three hours of surgery yesterday after being rushed to Royal North Shore hospital 24 hours earlier following the accident, which happened at 2pm on Tuesday.

The distraught model, who is right-handed, was driven to hospital by a shaken member of her television production crew.

The spokesman said McNaught, who was too distressed to talk to the media, would meet with surgeons this morning and was expected to spend the next six weeks in a cast.

McNaught was booked to host the red carpet arrivals at tonight's ARIA Awards for MTV but had withdrawn as a result of her accident.

Her spokeswoman said the model had over-optimistically hoped she might still make the red carpet.

In July McNaught ended a live-in relationship with star rugby league player Braith Anasta, who has since been linked to disgraced Home And Away starlet Jodi Gordon.
