krystal uplate spread

krystal uplate spread

Postby hippyd » Sat May 20, 2006 3:28 pm

I got this from uplate monday night. Recorded it on my dvd recorder in widescreen digital and put it on a dvd-rw to put on the computer. But it comes out not in widescreen for some reason. Still trying to figure out why.
Anyhow.....

Widescreen DVD video is anamorphic - that means the frame is natively 4:3 and aspect ratio correction is applied afterwards.

The standard frame size is 768x576. When converting you need to scale that to 1024x576.

In VirtualDub go: Video > Filters > Add... > resize

Type in the desired dimensions and choose a filtermode.
Choose Lanczos or one of the Bicubic modes.
Click the "Show preview" button to see the effect of the resize.

You may need to use the deinterlace filter (using the blend-fields option) if resizing produces artefacts.
You may also want to try out the "null transform" filter. It lets you crop the image (to get rid of black borders).

What I use (in order):
- Deinterlace (blend fields)
- Null transform (if needed)
- Resize (1024x576, Lanczos or Precise Bicubic)
- Sharpen (set to about 20)
- Levels (brightness correction - if needed)
- HSV (basic colour correction - if needed)

The more filters you add, the longer the processing time, but sometimes it's worth it.

ok tried that and used the xvid mpeg 4 codec coz the divx codec didnt wanna work after i did the filters thing, and when i watched the vid back it was in widescreen but also had something strange. On the right side of the picture there is these white lines goin vertically down, I have noticed these same lines on many vids i have downloaded off this site so I'm guessing this codec doesnt agree with my computer for some reason. What codec do you use?

Hiya Hippyd,

That white line is from encoding a video in a more up to date XviD codec and running a certain version of DivX. To remove that line, run the DivX update or download the latest version from http://www.divx.com.

I currently use DivX 5.2.1.
To make things easy for myself, I don't mess with the DivX settings.
I just click "select divx certified profile" and choose "home theatre".
